Well it IS a leather strap. I thought the color was TERRIBLE. I was about to tie my cheek to the butt of my rifle. I wanted it to stay really tight so I decided to wet the leather cord, lace it up and then let it pull really tight while it dries. SECONDLY, this substance almost did not touch the water, the paint flowed as if from an inkwell. I'm glad I found out about this BEFORE this thing ruined the finish on my rifle. And the color didn't just run out a bit and stop - I've been rinsing it off and on for the past 20 minutes and it's still black. That means no laces or booties (unless you want to track black ink stains everywhere after the rain), no necklaces or jewelry (unless you want a black neck every time you sweat a little), no lacing on the cheek of the rifle (unless you want to ruin your finish and have black cheeks). To be honest I can't think of many uses for this cable when it turns everything it touches into an inkblot. I recommend finding the best brand.
