High quality glass and metal housing, beautiful packaging. "Sand" is a very dark, black-pink color. As an artist I find that the hue of the sand does not complement the antique gold finish of the metal frame surrounding the glass. Most web photos of this hourglass showed white or off-white sand, which is what I expected. After receiving my order and marveling at the sandy color, I double-checked the photo posted online. Then I noticed that what was actually shown was an hour-long jar of the same dark, blackish sand that I received. I am ashamed that I have never seen this before. My professional opinion is that a cool sand color should work better with a warm metallic color. I bought this as a gift for someone who probably won't notice the color dispute, so I won't be sending it back; everything else about it is great. It is a 60 minute hourglass with an accuracy of 1 minute. The sand did not stick to the sides of the glass as noted in reviews from other brands. The sand glides smoothly and cleanly over the inner glass. The disgusting color of the sand is my only downside.
