Having never roasted my own coffee, this coffee bean roaster is great for beginners. My first batch is smooth and drinkable. There is a page of brief roasting instructions that I used that rely heavily on describing the bean color, what to expect, and when to adjust the temperature. This roaster has a temperature setting range of 0 to 240 °C. Something that isn't mentioned in the instructions and luckily I found out on the internet that brewing coffee also produces a lot of smoke. It's best to do this outside. I used a heavy duty extension cord that fits the 3 pin plug on this roaster and roasted coffee on the porch. Another benefit of using this outdoor coffee roaster is that roasting the coffee leaves a lot of thin, shell-like material at the end of the process. I used oven mitts to hold the roasting pan, which was very hot towards the end, and poured the roasted beans into a colander. Then I just gently shook the outside of the colander to remove most of the light husk. As the beans cooled even further, I inspected them more closely to remove any remaining "fluff". Both the coffee roast and the strainer require quite a bit of cleaning, although it's easy. The result is beautiful roasted beans. I only had a few lighter beans which I saved when packing the coffee once it had cooled. I waited 24 hours and then ground the beans and enjoyed the coffee. My rating is 4 stars because I wish the instructions were smoke and peel. Simply using the guide without doing any research myself would leave me with a bad experience.
