ext. The USB 2.0 DVD/CD player arrived on time (Prime) and in excellent condition. When the device arrived I immediately removed the packaging and plugged it into my old Dell laptop (Windows XP Pro.). I have previously had third party Ext CD drives that all used the same USB cable for power and data. I decided to see if this player would work the same way and just used the data cable to control the device. I booted up the laptop and after a few minutes a small popup appeared on the screen letting me know that my computer had accepted the new hardware. A few minutes later, a second pop-up window appeared stating that the hard drive is ready to use. In this case I put a CD/program that I was using on another computer into the new drive. The drive and laptop accepted the new software with no problems, and in a matter of seconds the new software was successfully installed. This CD/DVD player is fast and quiet at a reasonable price. It also seems well made and should last a long time. Very happy with the purchase.
