You'd have a hard time finding a stand along recorder like this that's easier to use. This is super simple! Just attach a video source, USB drive, and power supply. Hit the one button to start recording, and again to stop. There's no menus or anything for changing settings, just two switches. 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, and 720p or 1080p resolution. That's it! It will output an HDMI signal as well which makes it that much more versatile. It records at a relatively high bitrate, 18Mbps for 1080p files. Even so, you can see a little compression artifacts in high motion scenes. The overall image quality isn't the best I've seen by any stretch. It's somewhat "soft", not very sharp, and colors are washed out. I'm guessing this is a fault of the analog to digital conversion, and not a fault of the recording side of things. If you need great image quality and don't mind a fair bit of extra work to get it, you can get much better results and spend about half the cost for a good USB capture device and use a PC instead. If you care more about ease of use and simplicity, this wins hands down!
