Okay, but add extra hardware to extend lifespan.

The biggest issues that bother me are water ingress and the lack of washing machines. This means that if the paint is scratched, it becomes prone to rust. I put foam on the inside of the brackets where the crossbars meet the brackets. Once you've drilled holes in the cross members with your own drill bit, there's nothing stopping you from rusting, provided you don't snap like you did the first time. I put gorilla tape on the inner bars to stop the rattling. I also placed it on the outside before installing the screw and added rubber washers at the top and bottom. Stainless steel screws would help against the rust but I'm hoping to add other parts to cover them up before it rains too much and add a wind deflector to help with freeway rain. I bought a pair of Nilight bar fog light mounts, $22 for two pairs, and attached a deflector and fog lights to hold them. The tongues are a bit bent so I'll check them to make sure they don't rust in the future. This is at the usual length of E-150. The roof tapers towards the back so make sure you know where to put them or you'll end up drilling another set of holes. I will add another pair and maybe another pair of fog lights on the rear doors. You could probably install fog lights in the top holes intended for your ladders. Just make sure you use wide washers and maybe some rubber washers to avoid scratches and rust.

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • Not sure
