Review on πŸ› StopShroom Tub 2 Pack: Ultimate Drain Stopper for Bathtub and Bathroom Sink in Black - 2pk, Set of 2 by Tim Morrison

Revainrating 4 out of 5

New Shroom product but needs better design, four stars UPDATE: 1 STAR

and none of the sink or bath faucets have the original stoppers. I came across this new Shroom product and gave it a try. It does not form a seal that will keep the water in the sink for a long period of time. It's like it's too wide, so only the first (narrowest) ring will fit in my bathroom sink or bathtub. I've tested them in various sinks and tubs by inserting them, filling the jar with water, and then setting the timer. After 30 minutes, four of my five vessels were empty - all the water had drained away - except for one, the tub. The sink hole in the bathroom is narrower than a cork. One thing I've wanted to try, but just realized as I'm writing that I have yet to do it, is experiment with some petroleum jelly or some other water-resistant lube that may help create a seal or push the deeper put in the downpipe. . As soon as I've tried it, I'll report. When smear work is applied I will update this review. So if you are reading this in 2021 I ran an experiment and there were no changes and my original review remains as written. I will try to do another lube test before the end of October 2020 as they make great stocking fillers, hostess gifts and Christmas gifts. I hope that was helpful. REVIEW UPDATE - October 27, 2020: Hydrophobic lube to see if that would help push the plug deeper into my sink drains (bathroom, not kitchen) and/or create a seal that won't let water through. I did the same experiment as before: I applied a thin layer of petroleum jelly, put in the cork, filled the sink with water, set the timer for 30 minutes, and then checked the water level. The sink, which was practically dry (no petroleum jelly) in my first experiment, still had some water left, but about 70%-80% of the water still went down the drain. StopShroom is too wide to be effective in a sink. I then tried it in the bathtub - I immediately noticed that the plug went much deeper into the drain due to the larger circumference of the bathtub drain than the sink drain, but after 30 minutes almost all the water was still running down the drain. There must be a design flaw so unfortunately I am returning this product and the search for drain plugs continues.

Pros
  • practical item
Cons
  • so far so good
