Marble dust gets into food
Good, durable mortar and pestle, effectively grinds even very small spices. (I've used it to grind poppy seeds and it did the job well.) Grinding, however, causes the inside of the food to crumble. I don't know about the safety/toxicity of the dust and won't be using it again.
