Review on ๐Ÿ”Œ 6 Gang SeaSense Switch Panel by Alex Barr

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Wiring is accurate.

The first rating bothered me, so I thoroughly tested the circuits of this switch. This is great for a sailboat application (in my case a Catalina 25 model from the 80's). The ground for each circuit on your small boat should be connected to a ground bar, just like the ground bar on this panel. Note that your battery ground must also be connected to the ground rail (not the distribution board). What might put some off are the illuminated rocker switches. Light switches are wired in parallel with your electrical circuits. Therefore, there are three outputs on the rocker switches (there's even a diagram on the switch body). I believe this keeps the rocker lights from affecting the resistance of your circuits. I measured 41 ohms for each step, which would give you 0.29 amps in a 12 volt system for each lit switch (an additional 1.75 amps if all six switches are on). If you don't want your switches to be lit and want to save some juice, simply leave the ground rail from the switchboard unconnected to the ground rail. Otherwise I would not change the wiring. The panel seems solid enough, I'll install it next week.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • There are disadvantages
