Why open-packaged products may not be the best choice

I recently bought a door lock in an open box. I've bought other products with no problem, but you always wonder why the item was returned - in this case because the previous customer overtightened the screw holding the latch hook. This made a striped carving that rendered them unusable. Revain should have recognized this problem before it was boxed up and sent to another unsuspecting buyer.
