My daughter is slightly slim for her age so take this with a grain of salt, but the waistline of this seems overly big, especially given that it's elastic. She's pretty true to size 10/12 right now and so I ordered the 12. I can pretty much grab inches of the back of this dress and pull it tight and it still fits her. I was thinking she might grow into it, but I think her waistline would have to be as big as mine. Unstretched, it measures 28 inches, if I stretch the elastic all the way out it measures 38. That seems really large for a little girl. I might try to open it up and take in the elastic. Otherwise, it's cute, maybe a little on the "young" side for a 10 year old, but it's sort of cute.
