Weld well, load poorly

Bought this machine for my Hobart 210 for aluminum welding. For the first time I have to say that loading this gun is a nightmare. When I say nightmare, I want it to be as simple as a nightmare. I spent nearly 45 minutes on the first try and had to disassemble the gun to try and clear the jam. I don't think it would be "practice makes perfect". It's just a very bad design. The problem is that the top roller lifts up and exposes the jaws for the wire to pass through. The bottom roll is tight and too high. So if you push the wire from behind it will hit the pulley and lift it too high to get it through the next part. You should pull the wire out and try to "pre-bend" it just right to fit through the pulleys. You had to add an access hole after the rollers so you could use a thin screwdriver to line up the holes behind the roller. Loaded it works like a charm and produces some nice welds. So far I've welded a .125 sheet metal but have welded it through. It was a little tricky and you have to move fast to avoid burning out, not the prettiest but durable. The 1/4 inch thick profiles weld very well and stack some good stacks.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Long delivery time
