My friend advised me to buy this set of 2 packs of resealable ice cube tray lids. She said they work better than other open trays. So I ordered a set and experimented with it. unpacked a set of molds for ice cream and lids. did notice a faint metallic odor so I soaked each tray in hot soapy water hoping this would keep the smell from coming back. Then after the shells have air dried. I added hot water and sealed the lids. The lids, when locked on the tray, prevent water from escaping, but the remaining ice cube holders lose water as water seeps into the next compartment. So I opened one tray again, refilled each compartment with water and closed the lid again. I left the tray in the freezer for about 48 hours to ensure the trays were frozen. I took out the ice cubes and still smell a faint metallic odor. So I soaked the trays in dish soap and hot water again. . Didn't smell the smell anymore. I like to use them to have different shaped ice cubes in my soda glass. I highly recommend.
