My knees are broken and it is very uncomfortable to get under the table to connect and disconnect the laptop. I've built a couple of 2" insulators into my large U-shaped desk, which are handy for routing cables to the power supply and computer outlets, but until recently I didn't think of putting a single ring of insulation through such a device replace - and I'm glad I did. It would be easy enough to use a hole saw attachment on a drill press if needed, and the 3" socket fits two outlets, but I'm okay with the single outlet available with the 2" and it has too two USB ports that I make good use of. Very convenient! I advise!
