Review on ๐Ÿ• Black SPORN Head Halter for Dogs by Shannon Saunders

Doesn't work for a real puller!

I have used halters that go through the dog's legs and fasten behind the shoulders. I've used spiked collars (which I despise as they can really hurt a dog's throat). I used a leash that wraps around the dog's waist and pulls tight to stop him from pulling (it worked for about 15 minutes, then he pulled hard enough again to actually defecate the next day). And then I read all the great reviews on this product and I thought oh that's ONE! Well it isn't. The first one I bought was actually defective, it was already fitted with its nose under two plastic clips so the rubber band was over its nose and started rubbing into its fur and skin. I swapped it out thinking it would work if put together correctly and even bought another one for my second dog thinking it really is ONE! Well, a second dog who pulls only occasionally but quite vigorously when he does I'll admit that lets him walk without much effort. But when confronted by a barking dog behind the fence, he still pulls me across the street, and no amount of tugging on the collar will stop him. But the first dog, a 140 lb. almost 3 year old American Staffordshire? It doesn't even slow him down. On the first day of use, he spent the entire 1.5 hour walk falling on his stomach trying to get his paws under the noseband. On the second day of use he did the same but only every 5 minutes or so, the rest of the time he just walked with heavy pull. But by the third day we were back to normal, he pulls horribly, actually pulled my 200lb husband off his feet and laid him face down on the path we were walking. Now I bought them to make our hikes more comfortable for everyone. I am traveling with 3 dogs, a female who is amazing on a leash and my 5 year old male who is sometimes good and sometimes terrible. and the new dog, under 3, probably never walked on the leash much until we found him 8 months ago, but since then he has been walking at least 5 miles a day and has been a TERRIBLE move. He yanked the leash out of my hands, threw me to the ground and actually stunned me for several feet, and he's totally out of control when we're greeted by a deer, a wild boar, a possum or a raccoon. And that's why I chose this collar, thinking it's humane, comfortable for him but gives me more control. Well, it wasn't like that, not at all. And after almost 4 weeks of use you can see wear and tear on the bridge of the nose! After two weeks, the rubber band on the rubber band was already deformed and twisted. Now, after less than 4 weeks of use, the noseband material itself is torn and worn out. During use, this noseband is the ONLY thing keeping the collar on the leash and once it clicks the dog will walk away and end of story. I was concerned about this when I first started using it, thinking if it breaks or breaks my dog will run into those woods and swamps in the second apartment. But I thought oh they must have tested it with strong pullers, it will hold. Do you see it wearing off now? This thing will give up in a maximum of two weeks. (hihi, my dog's name is Max) As for the three options, they ask you to rate this collar. The first. comfort. No dog likes wearing this bandage on their nose, both will try to fall and turn around, pull the bandage over their head (this is very easy as the "keeper" is NOT held at the back of the head, it slips and requires constant Customization!) Second, "Ease of Use". Yes, it is very easy to put your dog's head on, attach the noseband and properly tighten with the "holder" at the back of the head. But while, as I said, it's easy to put on, this retainer just doesn't work, so every 5 minutes I bend over to re-tighten it before they manage to get the bandage off my nose. . "Price of Money". Now, if something wears out in less than 4 weeks of use, does that mean it needs to be replaced every 2 months or more often depending on how the dog pulls? No, bad value for money. Now this can work well for a small dog that pulls a little, and possibly even a very large dog if you use a 1 inch training leash. But for a REAL puller? Forget it, look elsewhere because it will only frustrate you as damn, upset your dog and you'll still be dragged down the street. This head control collar is not the answer!
