I've been looking for a telescope to get my kids involved in astronomy for a long time. Most reviews indicate that they are difficult to see through and that easy visibility is very important when dealing with children. Being my first time using a telescope, ease of assembly and use was also very important. Reviews about this telescope were good. I finally bought it and the reviews were correct. Building it was pretty easy - there's only one way to put it together! The viewfinder was easy to set up and a few minutes of aiming and adjustment brought it to zero. The screw adjustment is very simple. A small note on the viewfinder - you might think that the red dot isn't useful in locating celestial objects when you first look at it during the day. I assure you that it was important to use the telescope at nightfall. I was very thankful for this function. Most Newtonian telescopes require a process called collimation to ensure the mirrors are properly aligned. Mine was built quite well right out of the box. The manufacture must be very precise, because I have seen many reviews of telescopes of this size and price that still ask for it. it to the moon and went to get my children. Two minutes later, when I was gone, the moon disappeared! I thought it might not shrink, but no, an astronomer friend assured me that the moon was just moving so fast. A little tighter and I don't think you can match the moon with all the tightening and loosening it takes! By the way, about the moon. Wow. I put the moon in the viewfinder and raised my eye to the eyepiece. I understand that this moment happens to everyone, regardless of telescope. But to be honest, I was completely out of breath. I didn't expect an emotional reaction when I saw the moon's details firsthand. My kids yelled "I see craters!" and it skipped a beat :) This story above should show that the clarity is very good. There is no blur, no distortion - everything is crystal clear. But if you want those crystal clear images, here are some quick tips: 1. Your telescope mirror will NEVER be clearer than the day you received it. Do not attempt to clean any dust that has entered after the first use. Wiping it with a cloth will never remove it, and you'll never see that spec anyway. 2. Take the telescope outside 10 minutes before use to allow it to warm up to ambient temperature. This prevents the image from being distorted by "thermal waves".3. If it's very cold outside, pack the telescope when you return it to warm, humid air. You really don't want condensation to form on the mirror. You can clean the mirror but see rule #1. I hope this review helps someone else. This is a great telescope and value priced and I am extremely happy with my purchase. My kids love using it and I couldn't ask for more!
