My office has a steel door with a spring closer. I was told that fire codes didn't allow the use of a step or hook, and my company provided me with plenty of wedges to stick under the door. They just glide across the carpet. I eventually got a working rubber wedge, but it only worked when I kicked it under the door so far that it twisted and deformed - in other words, it didn't work in its intended shape either. These things are GREAT. They slide easily and the door stays open. End. Nothing out of the ordinary, no moving parts, nothing to go wrong. Great design. I think they are a bit pricey but they work great so I agree.
