Review on Ultimate Guide to KOWOOD Router Pieces for Woodwork Beginners by Mark Harris

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good choice, great beats for a beginner or hobbyist

I started using the router for some basic projects early last year. I bought this bit set expecting it probably wouldn't be the best or most durable, but it was the sizes and styles I needed and at a great price. I was really impressed with them and have used half of them so far! Since they have 1/4" shanks, I make sure I do two passes for anything deeper than 1/4". It takes longer, but the cuts are cleaner and the risk of the knife bending or breaking is almost completely eliminated. Several different straight router bits have gone through about 30 yards of different types of wood on my router table and are still sharp. The box bits I use in my plunge router work great. I'm still trying to perfect the spacing and height for the round corner, bay and oji, but that's up to me, not a bit. I'm not sure I'll use the rest, but I'm happy to have them in case I need them. They all make good straight cuts. If you only need a crown and/or V-bits, I started with and recommend a set of "eyech” bits in my plunge router: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B081998CP2 Here are photos of some of their first projects, domino holders and other games. An angled circular cutter is attached to the table at the back of a pair. If you notice round nicks at the end of some smaller pieces, that's the fault of my poorly designed (but frugal) cobalt router table, not the bit. Some genius made the inserts for this table a few millimeters thinner than they should be, leaving a nice protruding edge to catch small bits. Someday I'll put on some coats of paint or something to make them flush with the table.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Okay overall, but...
