I bought this because my two cats suddenly decided my couch could make a great scratching post. I read the reviews so I didn't even try to put it against the wall, I just laid it flat next to the wall. Since I'm clearly the main cat in my family, I had to scratch my nails to show them what to do. They immediately got to work. At first they seemed to enjoy playing with it more than scratching it, and continued scratching on the couch. When I caught them scratching on the couch I just picked them up and put them on top and they kept scratching. Now they leave the sofa alone and happily scratch the little one with their claws! My poor sofa never gets better, but at least not worse! I will now buy a second scratching post because my cats are idiots and very reluctant to share and the price is low enough to justify buying a personal scratching post for each.
