I know paying for giant garbage bags seems crazy, but I love them. They help keep the van out of trouble no matter what you throw at it. Like any garbage bag, they can be punctured or ripped, but I just tie them together and then the truck turns them over and it all falls into the truck. If you're frugal you can keep it there for a couple of weeks instead of using one a week (depending on what you throw away!). The only thing I would change is that in order to fit around the lid's hinges, I have to cut and/or rip the edges of the pocket for it to fit snugly. Otherwise, they will pool and hold rainwater. However. cut them open and then either tie them with loops or use giant rubber bands to hold the packages in place.
