Review on Eufy EufyCam Solo 2K by Amir Tune

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Eh It could be better.

I bought this camera to complement my Arlo Pro2 cameras, but if I could buy another Arlo Pro2 camera I would buy it. Don't get me wrong, this camera would be a direct competitor, but it lacks the features and functionality that I enjoy on my current system.1. When I installed the camera, I powered it directly from an outlet in the garage. This included a blue loading light that draws attention to the camera. I couldn't figure out if there is a way to turn off this light. Maybe a solar panel setup does this, but I couldn't find any documentation describing what a solar panel setup actually does and I haven't connected to a solar panel.2. It turns out that only local storage is free. You can still access recordings remotely, but you're accessing them directly from the camera's internal storage. That's fine as long as someone doesn't steal your camera and they're out of range of your Wi-Fi. At this point, you don't have a camera, nor a recording of the person who took the camera. You CAN get cloud storage for $3/month (per camera), but I bought this camera to avoid monthly fees. Arlo Pro2 offers 7 days of free cloud storage, but all of Arlo's current offerings come with a monthly fee.3. The only way to activate the camera is with motion detection. I was hoping to record with both motion and sound like I can with Arlo.4. One feature I liked about this camera is the ability to filter out non-human motion camera activation. I see this as very useful, but I also want to see animal actions, so I set it to trigger on ALL moves. Before I could change the setting, the camera detected the movement of some children playing, but didn't record the action because it couldn't identify the children as human activity. (Perhaps this confirms that children are animals?) ;-)5. The memory in the camera is not removable. It's not a big deal I guess, but I was expecting that the microSD card could be removed/replaced to keep the recordings. When the built-in memory is full, old videos will be overwritten.6. The battery is not removable. If I didn't have a camera connected, I would have to detach the camera to charge it. This would mean I wouldn't have camera coverage at this location unless I buy another camera to fill while the first camera charges. With Arlo, you leave the camera in place and simply swap out the battery so you don't lose coverage.7. The camera was set to record everything, but often didn't work when people were walking by. I only know this because they came to the driveway and turned on the doorbell camera, but I never got any notification or eufy camera footage. Overall, this is a good alternative to cameras that require a monthly fee, but there's room for improvement. .
