I was trying to use this soldering iron to replace one of those SMT capacitors. It had a small pencil tip that was perfect for my application. The soldering iron couldn't get hot enough to melt the solder. It's just a lump. I used another soldering iron with the tips from this kit and was able to complete my repair job. My old Radio Shack soldering iron did a great job with the SMT caps. When I switched the tip to another soldering iron, burned bits fell out of that soldering iron. That's not a good sign. However, it can work for solder wires. There may be specific low temperature applications where this will work. However, this is not a board repair.
