Good hardware, poor documentation, and quality control issues

The X708 is a pretty good UPS for any Raspberry Pi model that has a 40-pin GPIO header. This gives you the ability to reset, power off, or force power off with varying durations of pressing a single momentary switch. This provides a way to control the battery via software. It provides a way to shut down software that actually turns off the power. All these things are beautiful and I really like them. BUT. The documentation is poor, to say the least. Geekworm doesn't even have its own website. They're using the Raspberry Pi wiki and don't seem to be looking at or answering any questions. There are also errors in their documentation on the wiki. There is also at least one bug in their installation script, it requires sudo to work properly. Besides bad documentation, I also received a board with some quality issues. I had to re-solder the pin on the female side of the GPIO connector, so I ended up re-soldering all 80 pins on both sides of the GPIO connector. I posted on their hardware wiki page how to fix the problems I was having. Overall I am happy with this board. I wish Geekworm had better documentation so there are no bugs in the software and I don't have to re-solder the pins. But I like the features the board offers.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Minor issues
