Everyone who owns a computer has various peripheral devices that need to be connected; Monitors, speakers, external hard drives, etc. All of these devices continue to use a small amount of power even when they are turned off. This overvoltage protection allows these outputs to automatically turn off when a device connected to the control output is turned off. This is a great feature. I grabbed my Kill A Watt to make sure none of the green outlets were actually being used after I shut down my computer (while some of my peripherals would be drained if I plugged it in normally). Our energy company sent us a smaller version of this power strip as part of an energy efficiency program and we ended up using it in our home office and buying a larger version for our entertainment center. They are amazing! It also has a couple of always-on outlets for peripherals you might want to keep powered on all the time: routers, modems, etc. I'm also a fan of protective cases, which come in very handy. Easy to get in and out of, but protects the sockets from things like dust or kids with plugs.
