Review on 🧡 Fons Porter R7845 Quilting Quarter Markers by Jessica Lewis

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great item IF the large logos don't take up as many lines of the line

ea. The short ruler is 8 inches and the long ruler is 12 inches. I bought these to use primarily for HST (Half Square Triangles) and unfortunately they aren't the time saver I was hoping for. that "Fons & Porter" is printed in very large type, breaking the lines of the ruler. "Omnigrid" prints a bit smaller, but also breaks lines. With a smaller ruler, the logos take away a large portion of the ruler lines, making measuring/aligning difficult, especially when working with small details that don't extend the full length of the ruler. If you zoom in you can see what I'm referring to. The logo placement could be better (moved outside of the ruler lines) or they could reduce the text so it doesn't break most of the line. I think this problem could have easily been avoided and quilting experts like Fons & Porter should have tested this product and fixed the problem before they put it on the market. Rulers are also VERY slippery on your fabric; so slippery that I will only use them with a marker and not a disc cutter. They are not at all like my Olfa rulers which are non-slip. In addition, other rulers of this type have features such as slots in the center line for marking or even ruler markings on the sides. While ruler marks aren't needed, I think being able to mark the center seam here is a huge missed opportunity. Because of these logos and slip factors, the rating has been reduced from 5 to 3 stars. Even talked about 2 stars. I mostly use the 1x12" Olfa Frosted Advantage Ruler to get the job done. Yes, I do have to take the time to turn the piece over to mark both sides of the HST, but since Olfa doesn't slip or break the line speeds up Fons & Porter really understand the process.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Wrinkled packaging
