Review on LIFTMASTER Garage Openers 4A1344 Socket by Craig Lovro

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works well, easy to install, same bad design

Arrived quickly and in good proportion. A new one has appeared. They were easy to install. Just take a flat head screwdriver and pry on the right side of the old socket, pry it out and then use needle nose pliers to remove the wires. The front panel does not need to be removed. Connect the cords to the new outlet and press firmly. They were white instead of the original black, but they fit perfectly and looked original. Now the bad news and why I dropped the star. This is the same design flaw as the original, as the copper at the base of the jack is cheap and will likely fail again in a few years, just like the originals. The unfortunate thing is that they wear out and the headlights won't come on unless you tighten/loosen them, but eventually lose contact with the cooper and won't light up. It's just bad design, but at least you can fix them every few years. Shame on LiftMaster for not upgrading them to last longer. UPDATE **** August 2016: These things are no better than the originals. My lightbulbs never last more than a day or two and then go out. The only way to "fix" it is to pull out the ladder and fiddle with the lightbulb. LIFTMASTER has a terribly CHEAP product in these lamp holders. CHEAP shit. Thank goodness the real garage door opener works fine. I took a small piece of non-melting plastic and placed it under the cheap copper connection plate at the bottom of the holder. The block itself is made of plastic; So I figured it wouldn't hurt to do that. ENSURE THE POWER IS TURNED OFF and GENTLY pry the copper off with a small screwdriver and place a thin piece of plastic or other non-conductive material underneath to keep it in contact with the bulb. Now they work great. . I'm not an electrician, so if you do this you'll have to (CYA!)
