I have hardwood floors in my study. Like many of us, I use an office chair at my desk. One with wheels. I got one of those clear plastic floor pads but found the damn thing didn't stay in place for more than 2 microseconds. I tried the mat and got similar results, only it also immobilized my chair. I saw a rug very similar to this one in a jar at the entrance, and the light of an idea went on. Revine had what I needed. This Brush Step mat has a low pile and the chair rolls IF I WANT to, and the mat is vinyl coated so it WILL NOT move. Multiple colors were available so you can find one that suits your decor. Ouch. I bought a small one and put it on the doorstep. Works fine there too. I have to tell you that the exposed edges of the vinyl will warp and even crack if the carpet is stored on it for a period of time like mine. As it turns out, I still didn't like the edges and trimmed them off with scissors. It's easy to do. Just be careful not to cut the carpet pile. I couldn't give the product FIVE stars because the product was stored incorrectly (which split the edges). Anyone selling a product should know better.
