The worst thing you can do is overcook a good piece of steak. Inside it should be 140, but you can't see it from the outside. This clinical thermometer is great. Uses regular 2032 batteries (1) and comes with 2 extras. The right temperature for all types of meat, poultry, etc. is printed on the side. The probe folds neatly into the handle and the magnetic end easily attaches to my magnetic knife holder. There are 3 buttons: on/off, hold (to hold the temperature) and backlight for easier viewing of the LCD. Seen others at higher prices, but why? Everything you need is there and at a great price.
