I have a 1996 Jeep Cherokee XJ. The temperature gauge on the dashboard shows inaccurate information, but it works. I decided to try a new sensor to see if it would go bad. The first sensor arrived, I removed the valve cover, replaced the sensor and plugged it in and it didn't work at all. Then I checked the sensor and it turned out to be bad so I ordered a replacement, the replacement sensor was bad again, then I got a third one and that's bad too, the jeep is fine, the original one Temperature sensor still works When I plug it in it is only 25 degrees inaccurate. One sensor even melted inside if I look at the plastic plugs, they were made very cheaply, probably in China, I suppose they got a lot of bad sensors.
