Review on ๐Ÿ”ฅ EK Water Blocks EK-M.2 NVMe Heatsink in Vibrant Red for Enhanced Cooling by Joe Garczynski

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Installation is annoying. Check m.2 to anticipate thermal pad configuration.

Installation according to instructions on my Samsung 970 Evo does not work. Even with great force, the clamps will not snap. For fear of breaking the card I decided to just use a 0.5mm spacer on either side. This made it possible to clamp two plates, but without gaskets. I tried using 1mm spacing but the configuration flexed. So I left it as is and there is a gap as you can see in the picture. You can also see scratches on the heatsink from installation. I have posted monitoring charts before and after installation. I ran CrystalDiskMark64 on both. The recording was made at different times. I didn't get super-scientific with the experiment, since I was really only interested in rude behavior. The temperatures drop under load. However, my ambient temperature is higher. This is based on observations outside of the constructed test. This is likely due to a combination of increased thermal mass and poor thermal conductivity (poor seal configuration). The top plate also had what appeared to be a mark. I don't really care as it certainly shouldn't affect performance, although I thought I'd mention it. In short: > The installation is terrible > 0.5mm spacers are not enough to fit the product to the popular m.2's > The charging temperature has dropped by approx. 20+-10 C > The ambient temperature has dropped by approx. 6+- 4CI increased. I'm considering a return as I need to purchase more thermal pads to get the product to work AS DESIGNED. I bet if everything was nice and cozy it would be a lot better.
