The parameters for my pencil sharpener search were something reliable, durable and affordable, but not "cheap". The sharpener is only needed occasionally, but shouldn't be out of date in a few years. The School Smart Sharpener definitely fits my needs and I have to say "Heavy Duty" is the right description. If you're looking for a quiet sharpener, don't even consider this one. The sound of a pencil being sharpened can be likened to the sound of a piece of oak going through a wood chipper. Grinding noises let the operator know this machine is serious and enjoys getting the job done. The end result is a fast-sharpening pencil with sharp points and a smooth taper. Most sharpeners take a while to sharpen a freshly unwrapped pencil to a sharp point, but not this bad boy. He sharpens like a ravenous beaver and quickly copes with the task. I have no doubts that this will be the last sharpener I buy.
