Our 7 year old Roomba 530 finally died. In a review of CR's latest machines, it was praised for its lower height, better suction, and lower price than its iRobot competitors. Having a hardwood floor in my office and a loyal dog that loves to lie on it sounds like a good choice. The device works as advertised. It works great in my office, kitchen, dining room and any other space. Whether Berber carpet or vinyl floor, the 610 gets dirty. It also does wet cleaning with an attachable nozzle, but here I'd rate its ability as light to medium. I still use my old Mint robot for meticulous work. Despite being smaller than my old Roomba, it's not paper thin. It gets among things the Roomba couldn't, but the occasional bookshelf still causes problems. It charges much faster and lasts longer than Roomba. It's also MUCH easier to clean than an iRobot product. The dust collector is a self-contained, detachable unit that is not integrated into the body, so cleaning in the sink is not a problem. The sweeping mechanism doesn't wrap the hair around the brushes, which eventually need to be trimmed with scissors. It's also quieter than the 530 - sometimes I can't tell from the next room if it's working. It has several functions. Oddly shaped rooms sometimes mistake it for finding a base when everything is ready. The phone app seems to keep losing the device. That is, it simply disappears from the list of connected machines. While annoying, they're minor and don't hinder use, especially when the remote that comes with the 610 can trigger them from a long distance. Of course, the 530 lasted seven years. I will be back before 2026 and will update the review if I find any issues.
