A few things. First, purists will poop any brush cleaning solution and claim that all they really do is push dirt around. and they would be correct, but only to a certain extent. It's no substitute for a real record cleaning method (which has too many controversies to even begin to delve into), but it's a good measure to keep out the dust and dirt that so badly wants to get inside. Grooves like this provided that you a) keep the brush clean, don't run dry and don't apply too much pressure. A cleaning solution should be used, but only in a SMALL amount - the idea is to wet the fibers enough that very small dirt particles will stick to the brush and not just move (as they complain) and around the vinyl get another place but brush away instead. Proper and regular use really helps between cleanses. Second, this Crosley brush is ABSOLUTELY more like old-fashioned dishwasher brushes with directional bristles, as opposed to crappy RCAs and other cheap offerings. The bristles on this brush, while not that long, are truly directional and should only be used in one direction, otherwise you'll just be stuffing what's in the brush into the ridges - obviously not what you want. By the way, the second point is what the cheaper versions do and do not remove dust and dirt. I've had mine for about 3 years now - still works great. Keep clean!
