I went through 3 pumps to finally find one quiet enough to work in my living room. I added a padding layer from the perforated material you buy to grab the rug or toolbox. Lining, absorbs vibrations better than suction cups. This winner! I also like that it pulls from the bottom instead of the side because it helps a lot when the level in the swamp is low, gives you an extra inch or so that the level can go down. I can't find an adjustable flow, but the Tate's flow works very well for my 75 gallon tank! I bought a high flow model for another tank, it was definitely louder. In talking to aquarists I've come to the fairly conclusion that the pump manufacturer doesn't really matter, just that some make more noise than others during production. Great pump
