This is my second. Nothing wrong with my first one which I bought 4 years ago. This is an optional option to use on my wife's iPad Pro. We connect it with an adapter for it and this allows us to have 7 ports that you can use to connect USB drives to save your work, a wireless mouse with a USB adapter. Self powered or you can use the included power adapter. I keep everything I use with my iPad Pro like this hub, wireless mouse, USB dongle and cable in the case that came with it. Then just throw it in my backpack and you're good to go. It's definitely a reliable, durable device that you can count on!
