Review on Sony IER M7 In Ear Monitor Headphones by Larry Sabey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Could be better and feels like a sacrifice to the IER-M9 for marketing reasons

Originally thinking of upgrading from AKG K3003 bought IER-M9 but got a pair of them M7 inside. I tried it out overnight and found the bass to be really good for a pair of balanced armature headphones, so I ordered a new pair of M7s. (TL;DR at the end, when I finally got the M9, I found the M7 lackluster.) Without comparing the M7 to the M9, these are decent headphones for monitoring your own audio and listening to music from time to time , given its audio fidelity. Playback, but it has a darker sound signature and treble compared to the M9, and the overall audio resolution may need some improvement considering that's the BA's forte. Even its mids and lows (to a lesser extent) generally suffer from this signature for reasons I don't understand. Just how much an extra piece of fitting could affect the headphones was something I never really understood until I got the M9. A living legend, however, the ER4 series proved that even a BA can do a lot, so I doubt the M7 could use a little more attention from Sony to fine-tune its sound any better than it is. However, every company likes a higher rate of return, like $500 per unit to cover R&D and marketing, so why not release a better product at a higher price and have people with extra money pay for it, especially in the audio and electronics industries xD?

Cons
