Review on πŸ”² Melissa & Doug Shape Model Activity Set by Tim Ross

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent variety, but the finish needs improvement.

The Melissa & Doug Mold, Model and Shape Set offers your child lots of opportunities to play with clay or Play-Doh. Three rolling pins, smooth, grooved and with a mesh pattern, give free rein to creativity. The set is rounded off by five mold blocks and a pressure roller as well as four small containers with lids including animal figures for modelling. All the details are on a practical wooden tray. Like other Melissa & Doug toys, the form, form, and form set is a standout concept that needs a little tweaking. Made in China from less expensive woods, the workmanship of the wooden rolling pins and molding blocks needs improvement. A knurled rolling pin in particular will have rough ridges/burrs that will need to be sanded down - a Dremel tool will likely do the job. Some of the shards go in the groove so the child doesn't get a "straight" line when rolling the needle over the dough. The red block is particularly bad in the set I received; burning wood completely changes the intended shape of the dome. With the tools in his shop, "Daddy" can fix the defects - if he didn't, I would be returning the Melissa and Doug Model and Shape set that I received as defective. The batter in the containers was a little crumbly and won't last; My daughter had the same problem with a set she bought last year. However, I bought these specifically for the variety of tools and molds, so the condition of the test didn't factor into my assessment. My grandson loves the Melissa and Doug Shape, Shape and Shape set that he has at home and at his grandma's. If you're good at fixing imperfections or you're lucky enough to get a set without them, you'll love this playdough or clay toy. I gave this item 4 stars because of poor workmanship; If it had been processed more carefully, it would have gotten 5 stars.
