Review on Hamilton CapTel 840i: Enhanced Captioning Corded Telephone for Hearing Loss - Connects to Telephone and Internet Service by Chris Burks

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works as intended.

This device was bought for a very elderly person as I believe a lot of people who buy these phones are used for their intended purpose. That's for a 90 year old. OK, not fair, I know. That's the problem. With proper setup and careful, repetitive usage instructions, seniors can use these phones successfully. most of their intended (geriatric) users. The memorization of keystroke sequences, the fear of deleting a program and simply turning it into a "computer" drives old people insane who just want to see the signatures and speak into the phone. Remember that subtitles service is web-based and all problems with it end without subtitles. Overall, this government-subsidized phone system works for the most part, it just needs to be simplified for the generation it's intended for.

Pros
  • Useful not just for its intended purpose
Cons
  • There are cons
