I bought Kalita because that's what you see in the best cafes. It didn't disappoint. Actually I love it. The coffee is fantastic, although it depends a bit on your technique. I think the Kalita filters should help because if you pour in a decent amount of water, the coffee grounds actually end up in the grooves and filter. It seems to me that the water will have more contact with the ground. I can pour strong coffee with any pour over, but Kalita is the strongest. Compared to a Chemex (I have one at work), I think I can pour a stronger cup with a Kalita. Kalita is very easy to clean and store which is a big plus for me. I get a slightly different flavor with Chemex, but that may be due to the SS filter. They're both amazing, but I think the Kalita is a bit "smoother" and my coffee holds its temperature better than the Chemex when I actually drink it. The disadvantage of Kalita is the size. If you want to make a decent coffee pot, it doesn't contain as much coffee grounds and water as Chemex does. Therefore, for personal use at home, I prefer Kalita (and to taste), but for work, Chemex is functionally superior. Kalita's bonus is that she is very easy to travel with! Cleaning is as easy as rinsing and drying.
