I prefer it to Hario V60!

I have a Hario V60 and have always found it unsuitable for good coffee. The biggest advantage of Kalita is that it is much easier to get consistent results. That's because the Hario has a huge hole in the bottom, so you really have to be careful to water slowly and evenly. Kalita has 3 small holes on the bottom, so even if you pour too fast, the dripper will compensate a bit. for Kalita Wave every time!

Great fill option

I'm a big fan of the V60. To be honest I still prefer it to the wave; but sometimes I get beans and they taste way better on the wave, usually beans from South America. The only real problem with this blending mode are the filters. In the power of these expensive things. I say this because a couple of times I've accidentally overfilled the kettle while pre-heating the dripper/pre-wetting the filter. What happens with overflow is that sometimes the weight of the water causes wrinkles in the…

Awesome Pourer

Kalita Wave is a classic for a reason. It makes delicious coffee and is more technology-friendly than something like the V60. With size 185 you can make a good amount of coffee, which is important for me as I drink a lot of it. I do about 0.5L at a time. So far I haven't had any trouble finding Kalita filters, which was a pleasant surprise. The ceramic is of good quality and holds the heat well, although I would recommend rinsing the filters with hot water to heat them up before making coffee…

Good for continuous use

A few years ago I started making infused coffee using a cheap red plastic cup. It had downward sloping crests as standard instead of horizontal (wavy) ones and three large holes in the bottom which meant the coffee didn't really have much time to bloom. I ended up using over 3 heaping tablespoons per 12-ounce cup, which was plenty. I was uncomfortable drinking acidic coffee steeped in aging plastic, so I looked for a ceramic option. Kalita Wave was a bit more expensive than other brands, but I…

Perfect for one or two people, good coffee in less than 5 minutes

Perfect for one or two people. I drink two cups of frothed coffee in the morning and my husband one cup of black coffee. I was looking for a healthy coffee maker (free of plastic, aluminum, lead, etc.) I didn't buy the expensive filters that come with it and I don't use a burr grinder, I know they're a must, but I have a limited budget. I use regular coffee filters, moisten them and then fold them to size. Then I grind good quality organic Arabica beans (2 tx 8 oz) in my 35 year old Krups…

excellent poured coffee

I bought Kalita because that's what you see in the best cafes. It didn't disappoint. Actually I love it. The coffee is fantastic, although it depends a bit on your technique. I think the Kalita filters should help because if you pour in a decent amount of water, the coffee grounds actually end up in the grooves and filter. It seems to me that the water will have more contact with the ground. I can pour strong coffee with any pour over, but Kalita is the strongest. Compared to a Chemex (I have…

Pros
  • inspires confidence
Cons
  • I have problems

Kalita can only be compared to aeropress. I've been using Kalita for about 2 years and at least 5 with Aeropress (no longer in use). Note: I use 155 (stainless steel) when making a mug just for myself (250g) and 185 (ceramic) for me and my wife (620g). Overall I think the Kalita makes a better mug than the Aeropress, but it takes more experimentation to make it. In my experience I've had to spend more time finding the right grind size, proportion and potting technique to get great results, but…

Best Sprinkler Dripper

If you're into the thorough pour-on ritual, get the Hario V60, but if you're a little lazy like me, you need a better dripper. Glass is too thin and metal drains too slowly. - Get 185.185 is not very big, so there is no point in buying 155. I usually brew 16 ounces in my 185. - Kalita Wave requires the use of their special flat bottom filters so be sure to take them with you. The Kalita Wave is my everyday coffee maker because 1) it makes a delicious cup of coffee with little effort and 2)…
