This is the correct pump for 2004 Ford Ranger XLT 4 cylinder. However, getting there is not easy. Ideally, removing the fluid reservoir to replace the pump is the way to go. On the Ranger, the reservoir is located between the radiator fluid reservoir and the breathers. I managed to unscrew the two screws holding the tank, but the third was buried under the vent and at an angle. Luckily the reservoir was loose enough that I was able to pull out the old pump and install the new one. I have no doubt it would have cost around $150 to replace!
