Review on Delphi FG0053 Fuel Pump Module: Premium Quality for Efficient Fuel Delivery by Herb Guevara

My service engine light came on on my 2001 Sliverado 1500 so I went to the parts store to pull the code and it was PO446 Evaporator Performance. The evaporator purge valve and outlet valve have been properly checked. I did a visual check of the wiring, okay. I also pulled the vacuum and it held. Each time after individual checks I have reset the OBD but the light came on again a week later and I went to the parts store to get the code - PO446 each time. Then I decided to replace the gas cap. I reset the light and when the SEL came back a few days later I went and got the code. Looking at the person pulling the code, I noticed "Pending" next to PO446 and it was there on previous code pulls. After researching online I read that evaporative emission tests are performed when the fuel level is between 25% and 85% and the tests are aborted when outside of parameters. Before I had a problem with the SEL, my fuel gauge would not work properly, showing empty and then showing the correct tank reading, and it started doing it more frequently. I figured I could go for a while without changing the fuel pump (the fuel level sender is on the pump and both need to be replaced). I bought this pump complete with transmitter block and tank pressure sensor. The hardest part of the swap was removing the tank (about 2 gallons in the tank), the rubber fill hose made it a little fiddly. Done in 5 hours (at normal speed), reset OBD and haven't seen since (1 month). I like to think that the cause of the SEL activation was a faulty fuel level sender unit, not a faulty fuel tank pressure sensor. In both cases, the SEL light is off and the fuel gauge works. Great price for this pump. If only I had exchanged it 5 months earlier.
