Not sure what to think :/

Based on the reviews I assumed I could use this screen with any component that has an HDMI output. Apparently this is not the case? That or the fact that my screen came up with 300 vertical lines up and down and just doesn't work for what I need. Not required for PI, required for a field monitor project and not quite sure if it works for testing (vertical lines) or just can't do what I need.
