Teaching Facts About Families

Instead of learning math facts with practice cards, this is another method to teach the facts about "families". Every child learns differently. This concept of teaching children to look at the fact as a whole and not just the quantity is better for some children. It's not a "toy" but kids have fun with it. My daughter carried it back and forth in her backpack. He is durable. The sound can be turned on or off. (I love this feature.) I also love the different levels it offers. It gave my daughter a math warm-up program before she took her math exams in school. I must emphasize that this is for school children. It's like a kid learning flashcards. This is not a "fun" next level interactive game/toy with glasses. Ideas for using this item: - Have your child use this when you can't practice math flashcards with them; - Let teachers use it as a learning station while studying; - Use in elderly people with stroke/dementia; - a great exercise for the mind. ***UPDATE***: I keep seeing this tiny math gadget get bad reviews. I use them so often with kids at school that I thought I could help clear up a few things. (1) This is not a toy. This allows children to practice their facts in a different way than flashcards. In fact, think of them like index cards. They don't expect kids to be motivated to use them or even think they're fun. They are just different means of practice. (2) Noise disappears. Press and hold the ON button 1/2. It flashes quickly to indicate the sound is muted. It's actually in the instructions. (3) Fact Families or Triangle Math is another way for kids to learn routine math skills. Some kids memorize, learn all the multiplication facts and then the division facts. In most cases, these children can transfer this to other areas of mathematics. Some children need a more global approach. Teaching children about fact families sometimes helps children see the bigger picture of how all facts are connected. (4) This is called MINUTE mathematics. It's designed to be done quickly, just like the timed tests kids are required to take at school. In many classes there is a 1-2 minute quick math test at the beginning of the day. It's just a way for some kids to warm up or get used to this kind of arithmetic. (5) Your child may be gifted or developed. However, please do not complain if your child is younger than the recommended age for this device. Also, could you complain that the reading cards are too boring? OVERVIEW: This is just another resource to teach a child. I use them as a station all the time because the kid can do it on their own. I hope this helps answer some questions/concerns regarding the device. I also hope this helps you make an informed decision on whether to buy this for your child.
