As usual, I came home from work and turned on the PC assembled in September 2018. To date there have been no problems. I could smell that burning plastic smell - just a whiff - so I turned it off, immediately pulled it off the wall and appreciated it. Nothing seemed strange. The smell is gone. Nothing seemed to melt or burn. I carefully turned the computer back on and the power supply ignited the cable attached to it and made this sharp noise, similar to an electrical conductor. I pulled the wall and it quickly burned out. It could be worse. I don't know if it damaged other components. Then I did some research. The power supply melted the power cord! Lesson: Use only the extra-thick power cord that comes with the power adapter. The smaller power cords you have lying around won't carry the load.
