Review on OTC 8149 Conical Pitman Puller by Mark Harris

OTC 8149 PItman Arm Puller / Separator

I bought this to use as a ball joint puller because it is similar to the Mercedes lower ball joint puller used on the Mercedes W123 and W126 vehicles. I didn't order properly far off because I wanted to know if it would fit but found that even OTC doesn't have a good size list. I ordered it anyway and here are the measurements. width in inches. The widest part of the tool that the manipulator can penetrate is 2-1/4 inches wide. An open area within the tool; Height from bottom to top inside is 2-15/16 inches. The tool is larger than the official Mercedes tool but fits and is easily removed from the ball joint. It might also work for the intended Pitman arm pull, but I didn't have to do that and didn't try it to see if it would fit the Mercedes Pitman arm. The tool is made in China. However, the only company that makes the same tool with the same design and shape is US-based Snap-on, and even used ones on eBay can cost over $100. This is an extremely low price compared to other providers I've looked at. I also bought a larger OTC 8150 which has the same design but is wider and slightly taller. I haven't used it for anything so I can't comment on that.
