Review on Enhanced Performance: Melling Hi Volume Oil Pump for 4.6 5.4 Modular Ford - 20% more volume than stock (Model M340HV) by Daniel Pierce

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Two years on a 2008 4.6 liter Mustang GT

Turn this on by doing a full synch just to put your mind at ease. My 2008 Mustang GT has a 4.6 liter engine with all the phaser and oil pressure issues of its 5.4 liter cousin, although the GT seems to be a bit better and has a lot more engine clearance to work with. The car runs confidently, drives hard and at consistently high speeds (of course with other mods and tune) without any problems. You will need a flexible ratchet wrench to remove two bolts from the old pump's suction tube so you can attach the new pump. I didn't have any and it was a nightmare, but I used a socket and pliers to loosen the screws. I dropped one in the oil pan and never got it out. If this happens to you, do not panic, the screw must not get into the engine through the filters. I taped some strong magnets to the bottom of the oil pan just in case lol.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Very expensive
