Review on πŸ”’ Enhance Stability and Control: The Vanguard Alta BH-250 Ball Head by Ricardo Anderson

Solid, heavy, smooth

Just received this ball head and was very surprised. I'm replacing a Bogen 3047 head that weighs a ton and is a PIA. The Vanguard is a beast too, a lot bigger and heavier than I thought it would be, but a lot lighter than the 3047. I attached it to a Bogen Manfrotto 3030a tripod that I bought in 1985, removed the adapter from the bottom of the Vanguard. and attached it to the 3/8 screw on the bow. It fits like a glove! The bow tripod really likes this device. I strapped my Pentax K30 to my head and it stood up like a rock. And now the real test. I tried the movements on the new Vanguard head. Smooth as butter on an Arizona summer day! I made a few minor adjustments, tightened everything, and everything was like a rock. No movement, no slouching, just does its job and does it well with surprising ease. This ball head should last long enough to pass to my son. I then attached the head to my cheap Targus monopod. Attaches easily but this monopod will not fit this head. I need a better monopod. I wish I had bought this ball head sooner. You might prefer the Vanguard 250, which is smaller and lighter, but either way you can't go wrong with either the 300 or the 250. We recommend.
