Pan control should fluctuate wildly

Solid feel, easy to use controls. I had kind of a problem and a big problem. The safety pin is in my way, removing it is a royal torture, maybe it was designed to give me a choice. Big problem, the pan adjustment works great BUT unless it's tight there is significant wobble; The choice is yours: smooth panning OR no wobbling. I use this for spotting scopes and precision rifle shooting. Panning is useful, but wobbling is terrible. If I could do it again, I wouldn't buy this model for that reason

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Unreliable

The head itself is AMAZING. Reliable, smooth movements, excellent adjustment possibilities. However, the clip is not fully compatible with Arca-Swiss. Most Arca-Swiss records have two small screws to prevent the record from falling out if the clip is not fully engaged. THIS clamp uses an off-center spring-loaded pin to do this. This means you have to remove 2 screws from the other plates (or the Arca lens legs) as they have nowhere to attach to the head. Also, the other records don't have a…

Wow Vanguard on tripod heads

So my memory of the Vanguard are discount tripods at department stores or electronics stores that you bought out of necessity rather than durability. I say this to apologize for not giving them a chance in the last 15 years. This ball head is the best I've bought in years. It's better than my Manfrotto and many others. The handling of this part is impeccable. It's durable but not too heavy. Oh my god, this thing's locking and friction is light years ahead of anything I've tested. I also like…

Exactly what the doctor ordered for my tripod

The head that came with my professional camera tripod, LESHP Portable Aluminum Folding Travel Tripod with 360 Degree Ball Head and Carrying Case for SLR Cameras Canon Nikon Sony Sanmsung Olumpus doesn't cut mustard so after looking around and seeing the reviews and price on it I decided to give it a try. As a result, my tripod will now hold my camera even with the 70-300mm lens fully extended without me having to twist and turn the ball joint lock and may still move down. I'm very happy with…

Poor quality control

Please note that this review is NOT about the Revain service (which was great!), the problem is with the product itself. The Vanguard Alta BH-250 ballhead came with faulty bubble levels . One of them didn't even have liquid in it. How can such an important part of a ball head go unnoticed during quality control? This is fine alignment for you. Also, ball motion is not very smooth when panning or tilting. In addition, the 3/8 to 1/4 double adapter sleeve was missing. It seems to me that Vanguard

Solid, heavy, smooth

Just received this ball head and was very surprised. I'm replacing a Bogen 3047 head that weighs a ton and is a PIA. The Vanguard is a beast too, a lot bigger and heavier than I thought it would be, but a lot lighter than the 3047. I attached it to a Bogen Manfrotto 3030a tripod that I bought in 1985, removed the adapter from the bottom of the Vanguard. and attached it to the 3/8 screw on the bow. It fits like a glove! The bow tripod really likes this device. I strapped my Pentax K30 to my head

Best value for money I could find for the lever control head

Due to its size and weight I wanted a ball head to replace my trigger ball head. I did not take this purchase lightly as it took a lot of research and a prior purchase/refund to get to this ball head. I didn't need a knob but a locking lever to control the bullet adjustment. The travel of the lever and the ability to adjust its starting point are important to ensure there are no problems with quick adjustments. Build quality is also very important to me, but I didn't want to buy a $500 head as…
