Useful for Searing & Broiling

This is one of many Cukor products that we've been happy with over the years. We've used their single and double burners both in our kitchen, and in the RV. This particular burner, I like to use for searing meats on our patio. Whether I'm grilling steak, or cooking steaks in the oven, I use the "reverse sear" method. Which is to cook the steak on a wire rack over a pan in the oven at a low heat, until it's about 10-15 degrees below where I want the final temp of the beef to be.I leave a cast iron or stainless steel pan on this Cukor burner at max heat for a few minutes, until the moment I'm ready to sear. Using a pair of tongs, I cook the steak on each side for about 30 seconds, until I've gotten a Maillard reaction (nice brown crust). Then just let the steak rest on a plate for five minutes before serving. The idea is to get a slow, gradual even cook of the beef itself at low heat in the oven. And then to create a gorgeous sear on the outside. Never sear your beef before cooking. The steak won't cook evenly, and it won't be as tender as if you had let it cook at low heat for a longer period. The catch with searing beef indoors, is all the smoke it creates. You want the highest heat possible for your cast iron skillet or steel pan. And you'll fill your entire home with smoke, if you sear indoors. It's just easier to do the sear right outside. Which is made easy by just plugging in this Cukor burner. It's portable, stays put wherever it sits, and reaches the high temp I need for a good sear.I use a larger Cukor single burner for New York strips, t-bones, ribeyes. And this smaller one for filet mignon, salmon, anything that will fit in one of my smaller pans or skillets. This would also be practical for making simple meals for one in apartment or dorm room. Or for road trips, if you have a strong enough power inverter that you can use with your vehicle (we clamp our inverter directly to the battery, rather than use the cigarette lighter for appliances like this). It's only about twenty bucks, no reason to not order one, so buy yours today.

Pros
  • It’s very convenient to use for outdoor cooking
Cons
  • The non-slip rubber feet limit the ability to move the countertop placement of the burner
